Categories of hosting services

A hosting solution concerns keeping and/or sharing particular content on a web server managed by a hosting vendor. There are various sorts of hosting services utilized for different ends, so let's take a gaze at these. Thus, you can determine what you want, depending on whether you desire to own a web portal, e-mailbox accounts, or to share files with mates and acquaintances.

- File hosting: a solution delivered by various providers, which enables you to share bulky files. These could be disk images, motion pictures, audio files, archived files, and so on. This service is also known as file storage, and its sole function is to share files, since it does not support site uploading. As soon as the files are uploaded, you will either get a randomly created download link for each of them, or you will be able to read a roll of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to load .html or .php web page files in your web browser. Free-of-charge file storage packages are frequently supported by showing advertisements beside the download links, while a timer compels you to wait for a given amount of time to view them. A given file can be downloaded with restricted speed. If you purchase a paid file hosting account, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download immediately, and also there is no restriction as far as the download speed and the file size are concerned.

At the moment, with the assistance of the cPanel hosting corporations, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more fashionable "cloud hosting". This is a totally erroneous explanation of the actual denotation of "cloud hosting". A real cloud website hosting environment would distribute the tasks at hand between separate bunches of servers in a cluster, which are devoted to serving various site hosting services (mail, disk space, stats, DNS, databases, website hosting Control Panel, and so on.) So, the file hosting solution is just a variety of a storage space hosting service, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: similar to file hosting; some corporations provide a hosting solution for pictures exclusively. This hosting variant is good if you want to share a vast amount of images with pals or acquaintances since the solution is generally free. You will obtain a randomly generated link for every pic or album and you can subsequently share this link. As with the file storage service, .html and .php files are not supported, so the solution cannot be used for web pages.

- E-mail hosting: a solution committed to tackling your email address accounts. Some vendors offer webspace hosting services for sites, but do not offer an email hosting service. If you want to possess a mail address with your domain name but do not wish to keep a website, then the email hosting service is what you need. You can set up mail address accounts and manage them, but there will be no hosting solution for the domains. The email hosting solution includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP email servers.

- Video hosting: this solution enables you to upload and share videos. You can either share a link to a certain video, or you can embed the video in your web site that is hosted somewhere else. The advantage of utilizing this method instead of uploading the video clip in a web hosting account is that the video file creates a particular amount of central processing unit load, so with a handful of video files and a few hundred visitors, you may have trouble with your web space hosting supplies. Embedding the video file will permit you to keep as many video files as you wish without worrying about system resources.

- Web page hosting: this is the service that you need if you would like to own a website. To some degree, it comprises all of the aforesaid hosting variants since, along with your sites, you can also host pics and files, you can set up databases and e-mail box accounts, upload video files, etc. At Global Web Hosting, for example, you can take a glimpse at web hosting and dedicated web server hosting packages that permit you to get all of the abovementioned solutions in a single place. There may be restrictions based on the sort of hosting service that you've chosen - a free hosting plan, a paid shared hosting account, a VPS or a dedicated server. Depending on that, your web space hosting plan may be better or worse compared to the customary e-mail/file/video/image hosting accounts that are created for specific web content only.
